![]() But you likely won’t always have available shade - and even if you do, the background you want to use may be in full sun, which can create harsh backlighting if your subject is in a shady spot in the foreground. ![]() And sometimes, you can also use this approach when traveling. When working with this kind of light at a wedding (another scenario in which you can’t schedule all photos for golden hour), I often make use shady areas so my subjects are evenly lit, not marked by any shadows. But the reality when traveling is that the peak time for activities often isn’t in that golden window right after sunrise or right before sunset - and thus the light you get often is harsh and direct. In my ideal world, I’d shoot in a perpetual golden hour (or at least with clouds that diffuse the sun’s rays). Make the most of light, even when it’s less than ideal. I’m not suggesting everyone should be like this, and I’ve made efforts to reform and live a little less behind a camera when on vacation! But from all the times I’ve treated travel photography like it’s my job, I have some tips for getting great trip pics: ![]() And when I’m traveling, it’s second nature to treat the trip like I would a client’s wedding day: aiming to capture every little moment and detail. Full disclosure: I’m often a work-is-more-fun-than-fun type of person, especially if that work is photography. All in all, I would highly recommend Espace Mada.We take photos because we want to hold onto a piece of our lives - and whether it’s your honeymoon or some other trip you’re planning, documenting your travels is definitely a high priority. Christelle had no problems meeting us to arrange a refund for the boat we did not use and arranged alternative accommodation we needed and amended our tour so we could do an alternative activity that day, all very quickly and with no hassle. Espace Mada (Christelle) was excellent at arranging an alternative option when our boat from Sainte Marie was cancelled due to bad weather, they liaised with the hotel who arranged an alternative flight for us. Our driver (Zack) stayed with us for the period of the trip and was great and took time to look out for us, warning us of pickpockets in Tana, looking after our bags, taking us to whatever location we wanted, we couldn't by have asked for more. They were very flexible (for instance we asked for our hotel to be near the airport and they arranged an alternative hotel), we also suggested another hotel for one of the locations and they advised against it saying that they had had some bad reviews from customers they had sent there, we trusted their view and they were right, I think it was this kind of local knowledge that was really invaluable. ![]() All the accommodation was of a good standard and clean serving good food. They were great for recommending accommodation that they had used before. Espace Mada arranged all the travel, (driver, car, accommodation, guides, boat tickets, park entrance fees). I got their contact from the Lonely Planet and contacted them by email to request that they design a 2 week tour for us taking in the East Coast of Madagascar, they designed a tour based on our requests about what we'd like to see and amended it serval times at our request answering queries we had in relation to the sites that it would be possible to visit (and the ones that would take too long to get to within our timescale). We recently returned from a trip to Madagascar where we used Espace Mada as our tour company. ![]()
